Sorry I have no other pictures of his sailfin or anything as he won't really "display" it at the moment. Is there anyway to tell what kind of plec he is by the picture above? I will try to get some better ones right now.

Could be either, the fin is the key. A common plecs dorsal fin is comparatively small for the size of the fish wheras it is impressively large with a sailfin (hence the name).

A full length pic of your plec will confirm either way.

sailfins have a lot more pronounced reticulation in their colouring (the netting pattern - he looks like a common :)

It's a dark picture, but I'd say Common too.
Fab Fish.
Well the reason I thought he may have been a sailfin was because his dorsal fin was larger than a common plec I had before. :dunno: I will try to get a better pick later tonight when he decided to come out for food.

Probably. I didn't buy him. He came in a 55 gallon my mom bought at a church yardsale for $50. The previous owner kept the tank "half brackish" so I took him out as well as the two clown loaches he had in there. I didn't think salt would be very good for them.

I just took those pictures of him. Sorry they aren't that good, I took them in like 1 minute haha.

The pics are fine, its definately a common, the guys were right. :)

Yep, he's a beauty! :D

Count the fin rays in the dorsal fin to be sure. The common plecos have 8, the sailfins have 12 or 13. :)
