Just wondering what trees that commonly grow in the UK that would be safe for fish tanks? have seen a few people do it that ive asked but theyve been from the States and the tree's theyve used i've not heard too much about, but im not big on tree's  :look:

Hardwood...

Fruit tree branchs (apple, plum, pear etc)
Oak, Beech and Hazel are all fairly common...

Nothing thats still green at this time of year! If you can sink one of your nails into the wood, dont use it.

You will need to strip it completely, pressure hose is the easiest, ofall dirt and outside bark that bugs hide under etc....

Cool cool :good:

Yeah i know i'll have to dry it completely, strip it and read you should boil it to kill any fungus or bugs, discus aquariums in particular ive seen with branches in look really good, just wood from fish shops tends to be quite bulky, not to mention expensive (bog wood/mopani) and i love the tanks with the long thin branches going to the top of the aquarium, luckily have a little wood across the road must go for a forage

Keep us posted with what you find and maybe a few pics along the way ? Im interested in doing something similar as my thoughts on bogwood from retailers are the same as yours lol (And the sumatran wood that i love is extortionate !)

Yeah will do :good: Well i'm hopefully moving into my own place in Jan, so unless the wood across from my current house (quite small so dunno what trees they've put in there are, its a man made wood) has some ideal trees in it place i might be moving too basicly backs on to a huge wood/trail thing, so will be walking round there and filling the shed with wood for future use  need to brush up on what trees are what first though :look:
