I have a friend in new Zealand and she gas just sent me a picture ( not a very clear pic) of a Comet in her pond. The fish has what appears to be several white protruding lumps on it... she says the fish seems healthy and has had these lumps for quite a while........Do you think they could be cysts?? and is there any treatment??

Hey goldie, we have the same avatar!! :p
Not sure about comets, but KOI get something very similar - waxy whitish lumps - this is carp pox and is not threatening, will clear up when water warms up. Not sure if this is the same thing as your friends fish has in NZ - the water is probably quite warm there anyway ;)

:D Hi Sheba perhaps are avators are twins   . New Zealand have just had their Summer.......anyway I am adding her pic of the fish, but as I have said it isnt a good pic and difficult to see the lumps properly..... 3880301511_1_.jpg

Hard to tell really from pic, looks quite a chubby fella :) Is it definitely a comet? I only know about koi :S

If the lumps stand out and look lumpy then its cauliflower disease and theres nothing much that can be done as its viral and the fish should be seperated because its contagious.
If its flat and looks like wax drips then its carp pox and not anything to worry about.
Diseases for koi and goldfish are the same.

Hi Black Angel....my friend in New Zealand says the fish is covered in the lumps and says ''It looks like a toad''.........
I had a goldfish who lived to be around 12 years old, and he had several big lumps on him, none of the other fish in the pond were affected......
I will try and get her to take a better picture................
