Hi there

Following my other post about identifying the fish that came with the 2nd hand tank I bought i now need to work out what to do with them as i have my other fish in my old tank that the new tank was intended for. So i have the following:

Old tank:
4x corydoras
2x swordtails
2x female bettas
1x male dwarf gourami
1x bristlenose catfish

New tank:
5x Gold Gouramis
3x Long-Fin tetra
1 x Angelfish
1x Molly
2x Platy

I want to keep all the ones in my old tank and work out what i need to rehome from the new tank. The seller didnt know what fish he hadnand i didnt realise there were that many till i arrived to collect unfortunately.

It was supposed to be an upgrage for my current fish and to allow me to add more of them.

If anyone has any ideas of suggestions I'd be very grateful. New tank is 240 litre. My initial thoughts were the gold gouramis need to go and maybe more.

Many thanks

Yes, gold gourami and angels are a problem, but you still have quite the mix with the others.
How old are your betta and dwarf gourami and how do they behave?
What is the GH and pH of your water?

The bettas are young and get on fine with the dwarf gourami which was always going to be a risk. The angel fish is huge. Probably 6 inches top to bottom but also appears peaceful with its current tankmates.

PH on old tank is 7.5. GH is somewhere between 120-180mg/l. The testing strip looked in the middle of 120 and 180 to me.

I haven't tested the new tank yet. It was setup yesterday evening

Thanks. The betta / gourami may become an issue as they mature but hopefully things will keep going well. It's best to rehome the angel and the gold gourami due to territorial- aggression issues.
The water is middling (if 150ppm ish is accurate) so hard water fish are unsuited, especially the Molly but also the platys and, unfortunately your swordtails but I realise that would be a tough call.
I'm not sure what long-fin tetras are but they are likely to be suited to the water. Can you give the scientific name or a photo? Depending on if they are fin nippers or not, they may be compatible with the original fish?

I just saw your other thread with the long fin tetra ID. I've not kept them but on paper they are a match with your existing fish. Add a few more if you can find them, as shoals should be 6+.

Ok thanks for your advice.

The tetra's i was informed on my other post are Brycinus longipinnis. From what i read online they are peaceful fish generally but should be kept in at least groups of 5. Ive seen them bickering with each other today but not any other fish, exactly as the description i read of them states.

Ok cheers yeah. Can't i remember ever seeing them for sale. Ill keep my old tank running for a little bit to see how they interact with my other fish. If needbe put them in there till I can also rehome them.

Once things are working out I recommend also upping the corydoras shoal, minimum of 6 but you could fit many many cories in here.

Yes i wanted to up the numbers of corys for sure. And swordtails and female bettas really tbh. But will have to decide what to do with the swordtails

Love the idea of a more complete sorority! Just be careful about adding new female bettas, as the two you already have may not like the idea of newbies stepping into their territory. I tried a sorority last year, and the initial five I had got along fine, but after an accident happened and I only had 2 or 3 left, bringing in new ones to increase the number proved hard for me.

Oh ok yeah will do thanks. Weirdly enough the swordtails rule the roost in my old tank and nonody dares argue with them.

Managed to find a new home for the angelfish and gourami's so they are off tomorrow. Just need to hold off getting attached to them lol
