I plan on setting up a 100 gallon tank for several columbian sharks,
how much salt will I need?

The precise salinity isn't crucial, provided it's brackish. But with that said, adults look spectacular in marine aquaria when kept alongside suitable marine fish like yellow tangs, angelfish, lionfish, etc.

For kittens, start them off at about SG 1.003 at 25 C. As they grow, slowly raise the salinity a bit, and it should be around SG 1.005 to 1.010 at 25 C once the catfish are around the 20 cm/8 inch mark. They can be acclimated to marine conditions from about 15 cm/6 inches upwards, and SG 1.018 at 25 C provides a nice balance between the cost of salt and the option to keep hardy marine fish, most of which do perfectly well at this reduced salinity. They are reef-safe in some senses, but they do obviously view crustaceans and small fish as prey.

Cheers, Neale
