Yesterday in my local fish store one of the tanks had a very cool looking individual colored light up shining on a rock. The bulb was obviously a tank decoration and it sat in the gravel. I don't know the proper name for it, but they had both red and blue versions in stock. Does anyone have good or bad experiences with these? I'm going for a natural tank look but I could see the blue one giving a "moonlight" type feel to a little part of the setup.

Hello , we bought ours for our old tank on ebay paid around £17 for 3 diff little rocks with lights in, you could choose 3 diff rock colours like natural stone, slate colour etc, and the lights were blue, white etc you could pick. Or buy 1 rock for around £8.00 .
I like the over all look of these " spotlights " as you can add highlights or the blue moonlight tones to certain ares of the tank without having it all over with a huge bulb. We ended up getting the single ones eventually so we could have a red corner, a blue corner & a white bit pointing at diff angles , certain fish liked certain colours more too.
Defo going to be doing it again with my 4ft anyway x

Very interesting, thanks for the feedback. As of now, the plan is to have a blue light shining on the bubbles that come up from a circular airstone, and possibly have a large rock behind the bubbles. As long as it looks natural, it could be a nice section of the tank.

For that, take a look at the hydor ario colour. Comes all as one unit, pump, lights etc. It all goes in the tank as well so theres no annoying hum from the air pump. Would give you exactly the effect you were looking for i think.
