Ive kept tropical for years and have now got coldwater fish. They are so much more interesting to watch especially the weather loaches. Didnt realise you shouldnt keep regular goldfish with fancys (should have done my research) but it is turning out ok. Got 3 fancys and 2 goldfish . At first one of the goldfish was constantly nipping the fins of the fancies so i stuck him in a bag and floated him overnight in the tank , that was 2 days ago and now they are all hunky dorey lol.

I keep both types and they both have their good points 
I admit I find the goldfish much more interesting as well, they have real personalities. Most of my friends give my trop tank a glance but spend all their time watching the goldies.
I do however like the variety you can have with a trop tank, and the differrenct colors, etc that you just can't seem to get with a cold water set up.
