Im after some fish that would go into a 20g tank but they have to be cold water as im not putting a heater in it, i hear that danios are coldwater, is this true?

Zebra and leopard are classified as sub-tropical
both can take temperature ranges of 18-24c / 64-75f.
others danios are tropical and need heaters
HTH :D

Edit
I do recomend that 24" is the min lenght for both as they need
lots of room to swim, however the longfinned varieties will be
ok in 20 gallons, as they are not as active as their "normal" cousins

Theres quite a few possible fish but I am unsure of what you will actually be able to get in Australlia. You could try a species of Sunfish or Bitterling. But I am presuming as you are from Australlia that the temperatures of water there don't go to low as you have native tropical fish like Jardini Arowanas......So that leaves you with plenty of options; Minnow species, Stone Loach, Weather Loach, Cottus gobio, Stickleback species, Rainbow Dace, Garra pingi pingi and so on. But then you have to consider will it get ot hot for these species over there?
