Good Afternoon eveyone. I have a bit of a problem and looking for a bit of advice.

A cold water tank ,with 4 goldfish in, who are healthey and happy, they are in "good nick" BUT, where the tank is placed is the only place for it to go owing to a shortage of suitable space for a fishtank. Now it is very warm here and outside the Temp is up to 29degs, and in the room the temp is up to 27 with the sun coming into the room during "PM". The tank is of course not in the direct sunlight, but it is still very warm in the room and the temp on the thermometer on the side of the tank, is up to 22degs...I am thinking not good for those fish. The only thing in the tank is the filter and of course the lid light, which I will not put on because of the heat from the light will warm it up even more.
The tank is an Aquaone 500 and there is heaps of room for 4 fish, but I am worried about them getting overheated, how can I cool the water down safely please ????

Peter.

First of all, I wouldn't worry too much; goldifish are very adaptable temperature-wise.

Your main problem will probably be lack or oxygen, so run some exra aeration if you can.

To bring the temp down, freeze some squash or pop bottles that are 3/4 filled with water and put those in the tank, or do a water change; normally the tap water, coming from an underground main, is cooler.
