i have a fairy small plastic tank at the moment housing a goldfish and a shubunkin
i am getting a bigger tank hopefully in a few weeks and was wondering is there any snails/shrimp which would help clear up some of the algae when it forms

If the new tank you get comes with a filter (Which will be really handy for a multitude of reasons) then algae shouldn't grow as quickly once its ready and running, and if it does, a cheap algae scraper is just as, if not more effective than snails and shrimp. When you've scraped the sides with the algae scraper just do a partial water change to keep the water clear.

Shrimp may also be mistaken for food by both your goldfish and snails are very messy and will just add to waste in the aquarium.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

:good:

you can have a chinese algae eater in with the goldfish just make sure if he is running low on algae to put algae wafers or weighted cucumber so he resists giving the other fish a good sucking :)
