Hey,

My name is Ashlea and i just bought a five month old female cockatiel and she is scared of me , every time i walk past her she starts shaking and when i go to pet her she bites me and when i pick her up she screams, Ive tried a lot of things to calm her but nothing seems to be working. I have had a cockatiel before and he was like that at first but in a few days he turned around and became the coolest pet ever.

Get back to me soon.

I hope you didn't sign up here just for bird advice. It's a fish forum, afterall.

Anyway, best thing you can do is take things slowly. Put your hand in the cage, don't move it. Keep it there for about 15 minutes. Take it out, leave. Do it everyday, every couple of days sticking your hand in further. Put treats like corn chips, cheerios, grapes, etc in the cage. Find out which ones she likes. After you've had your hand all of the way in the cage for about a week, hold one of the treats. It may take her a while, but eventually she'll trust you enough to take it from you. From then on, you just have to take baby steps to gaining her trust outside of the cage, as well.

Avoid fast movements and don't FORCE her to be near you. You'll just reaffirm her fears.
