Hello a few weeks ago i thought about setting up a diy co2 system in my 350L tank because i have loads of moss in my tank and trying to get it to grow . I set up to bottles of yeast and sugar and warm water and made it go into one bottle half fill Then that bottle goes into the tank . My plants started growing after a few days of implanting the co2.

My mix is 2 spoons of yeast and 1/3 pint glass of sugar. I have a air rock connected to the end of it when it goes into the tank which i know weakenes the flow .
I have just bought a co2 lader from ebay.

But wanna get the mix right .

My mix works for around a day or 2 then stops ?????

2 spoons of yeast and 1/3 pint glass of sugar i get the yeast in saseys i use 2 of them ...
Im getting around 1 bubble a second in the bubble counter but still nothing cumming out in the tank ......

I have just started with CO2 and I am using the Nutrafin CO2 system which uses yeast. I found this old thread useful.
http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/164548-nutrafin-co2-basic-user-guide/

I used half a spoonful of yeast and a couple of inches of sugar in the bottom of the canister. I set it up yesterday and I get about 3 bubbles every 6 seconds. I think if you use too much yeast and sugar you can produce alcohol which kills the yeast. I am sure someone will correct me if Im wrong. I think what you need to do is try and adjust your recipe. There are a few on the thread above.

Have a look here too:

I have been told 1 bubble a second if fine . that is what i should be aiming for . so 3 every 6 seconds is weak .....
Ill check out them links

I agree with the alcohol thing i have no frof no more from the yeast so maybe i killed it ?
Think maybe i did a high blast of it e.g put to much yeast and sugar which made a big blast which does not last long ... if you get what i mean . It used most of the yeast and sugar over a faster time.

Also would 3 2L bottles be to much co2 ????
because i have a 4ft tank 350L and most ppl say this co2 would not work ..... So i guess id have to have more bottles ??? going to the bubble counter ??

I run pressurized CO2 in my tanks, and the bubble rate depends on a number of factors....How many and what type of plants you have....the dKH of your water....the amount of surface agitation.....etc,etc. The best way to know if you have the correct level of CO2 is with the use of a drop checker, and not counting the bubbles. As an example my main tank requires what looks like about 5 bubbles per second, but they are to quick for me to count

. I know that pressurized systems may seem expensive, but it is the safest way to do it. A lot can go pear shaped with home brew kits, and you need to ask yourself if it is worth the risk......unless you fish like the taste of beer

...........keep an eye on places like ebay, and you might just pick up a complete system for a snip

Nick i dont want to sound harsh when i say this but you are wasting your time trying to use a yeast setup in your tank. The tank is way to big for the yeast idea to work.

If you are wanting Co2 in the tank pressurized is the way you need to go.

I personally think any tank over 100 litres will struggle with yeast based co2.
