I was using this Co2 Regulator on my 55L planted tank about 6 months ago:

Along side the up atomizer I had issues getting the correct bps and even had the whole 5kg bottle empty in to my tank while I was at work (killing all my fish and shrimp)

Being a rookie when it comes to Co2 I could never work out the correct pressure to set it at, but after reading I feel it might be an issue with the regulator.

Here's a close up on the pressure dial:

I used to set it to 20 (on the inner dial)

I am considering replacing it but wanted to check first if it was me at fault or the regulator wad faulty.

Any advice or help welcome.

That's not a pressure gauge, it's a flow gauge, measuring litres pre hour (or cubic feet per hour on the inner row), rather than pressure.

Commonly seen on welding regs.

Replace it. I wouldn't use that. Also don't you have a bubble counter and a drop checker? ?

Yes I have both, The bubble counter is this one:

I would set the bubble count to 2 bps but when I would check again in like 10 minutes it would have stopped working or would have gone crazy and was pumping lots of Co2 in. I will replace it for the one I mentioned above I think (will read some reviews on it first, make sure the £75 is justified)

I think you'll be able to find a decent enough regulator for less than £75

i bought one from AE at £75 IMO if its the one thing you want to spend lots of money on and make sure you get it right its the regulator as you know it can kill in minutes everything else can be cheap and what not as they are not as important as the regulator altho getting a good one way valve to prevent water screwing with your regulator is a must

i know people use cheap regulators from HK on eBay i personally didn't want to wait so i paid for  the expensive one and i would say money worth spent :)

What make did you get? was it TMC one?

My regulator above killed all my fish and shrimp, so this time around I want a good one. (I got the one above with the Co2 system I purchased)
