Ive been reading around the finally created my own DIY CO2 soda bottle and used only an airstone to bubble it into the water. I was wondering if it is ok already to just place the airstone underneath my plants ( you know those bushy plants ) so the bubbles get trapped underneath and in between the leaves thus making the use of a reactor like a bell inaapropriate ? :) Just wondering :)

i have heard that to get the most Co2 out of the container an airstone isn't quite enough to stir up the bubbles but ive seen people put a bit of water movement over the stone and i gets the maxium Co2 cause you want the Co2 to mix with water putting them directly under the plants i cant see it doing any more a it would if you had it in the middle of the tank

Thats just what i have heard

Using an airstone is not a good strategy since the CO2 bubbles straight to the surface and is lost before it has a chance to dissolve. I believe what the OP means is by placing the stone under some plants, at least a small proportion of the gas will be trapped under leaves and have a chance to dissolve. This is obviously better then a simple airstone, but still rather hit-or-miss.

If your CO2 reactor is below the tank, fit a non-return or check valve in the line to prevent back siphoning when the pressure drops or you are maintaining the reactor.

thanks for the advise regarding the check valve ! i knew i left something out ! i did buy one but i forgot to plug it in ! anyways i plugged it in already and decided to go with an upside down cup to collect the c02 so they have time to dissolve :) do i really still have to pass a current near the cup to circulate water ? the current there is kinda slow since i moved it as far away from my HOB filter as possible. :(

btw thanks for replying to a lot of the posts here :) you really are a moderator :)
