Hi all, I have a prob with my new CO2 reg which is likely to be down to user error but it came without instructions (ebay joy) ...so who knows?! Anyway, its for disposable bottles but as soon as I connect it to the bottle gas is vented out at high speed through the pin hole in the reg, just above where it screws on to the bottle. I have only tried a couple of times as I don't want to loose all the CO2 in about 10 secs and seriously scared myself when I put my finger over the hole and my skin turned white and and went very numb (not my best idea..)

Anyway, my finger is now fine but my tank is still lacking CO2. Do I need to fine the nearest bin for the reg (and hence my hard earned cash) or am I just lacking some essential CO2 reg knowledge?
Thank you!

Hi

Disposable bottles should not be done up tightly, screw the bottle on until it starts venting then slowly unscrew it - should seal! I had this with my disposables....

You now have Co2 finger.
Everytime you immerse it, the water will turn green and grow Hygro.
Beware showers and baths

;)

I know what you mean
I accidently pointed a a FE at my foot once.
Cold and scary :D

Lol, I have seen a demo where a guy immersed a rubber glove in dry ice and then smashed it with a hammer because it had turned it so cold it was brittle - I had visions of my finger smashing like glass! Ooo er

It didn't work!
CO2 does come out of the correct place but only AFTER CO2 has decided to exit the pinhole, so then it dumps Co2 into the atmostphere as well as the tank. Basically CO2 prefers to exit the pinhole no matter what I do. The pics show the reg and hole so you can see what I mean! There is a seal in the reg that looks new and fine, but I don't really know about these things - advice appreciated!!

still not working... any ideas? Sorry to ask again, I have added photos now! Thanks

what's the pin hole for? couldn't you just seal it up with a bit of silicone or something?

Hi Miss Wiggle, yeah I thought about doing that I don't think it would work as the CO2 is still under high pressure (it has not passed through the reg at this point) and I am sure it would shoot out the silicone plug at high speed! I was thinking of welding the pin hole up BUT I think the pin hole is a safety feature to vent gas if the reg fails - can anyone correct me on this? Welding the hole up would be a solution but would it be a potentially very dangerous solution?!

Which reg is it you have ?

Have you asked the seller about it ?

I would have thought the pin hole was a safety device in case the Co2 pressure was too much for the reg.
What pressure is reading on the dial ?

Do you have the reg wheel turned off when fitting the bottle ?

Sorry for all the questions, but every little bit of info helps.

Hi Peter,

Yeah have asked seller about it - prob is my italian is not that hot. They do not know why it is not working, but I would rather try and get it working than have to send it back to Italy although that is an option and the seller has been ok.

I also thought it was a safety device. I have tried screwing the reg on with the valves open and closed and anything else I can think of but it always vents out the pin hole in preference to the tubing. I managed to get CO2 to exit via the tubing but only whilst it was chucking CO2 out the pin hole too - so I figured the bottle would only last a minute at the most!!!

When CO2 comes out of the tubing the gauge does register a pressure reading but as it vents CO2 out the pin hole also I have not been able to record the gauge reading as I unscrew the bottle before I loose ALL the CO2, although the needle on the gauge gets about halfway round (ie it does not go into the red). Thanks for any help you have - I might take it to a welding shop to see what they say but I can't get to a shop until next weekend. Currently I have another small CO2 system on my tank (the small Hydor one - fine but expensive to run on my 32G - hence the purchase of this reg!) so it's not urgent to sort this out asap as my tank has CO2 but the sooner sorted the better.

Thanks for all your suggestions - I always find people on here are super helpful :D

The weep hole is there to allow for a fault with the reg, in the instance the reg fails in some way the CO2 will vent to atmosphere, sorry to say it but my money would be on a faulty reg/seal... Do you have any other bottles you can try? (machine mart - £8 for 600g)

Ok , I guess thats sorted it! I'll take to to a plumbing/welding centre for them to have a look or I'll send it back! Thanks for all ur help :good:

I'm not an expert by no means, just remember some stuff like this from welding. Get them to take a look and see if they can try another bottle - tell em theres a beer in it for them
