I just bought a male crowntail betta and I think he is pretty young. It's hard for me to say how young but he is pretty small yet. About half the size as a full grown betta. Well anyways, I'm conditioning him for breeding and my first problem is that he wont eat good foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp. He prefers cheap crumbles or flake food. How do I get him to eat well? I have him in a ten gallon by himself. For a couple of hours I put the tank divider up that is clear and put the female in that I would eventually like to breed him with and he shows for her and dances but he has no idea what to do with the cup to build his nest under. He went under it and then went back to her but didn't blow one bubble. How long does it take for him to know how to build a bubble nest and how do I get him to eat good foods? Thanks everyone! :hyper:

Some bettas will wait for the female to drop eggs before blowing a nest. Depends on the bettas. Some will always keep a bubble nest, even when they're alone

If he is still very small though, he might be 3 months old or so. Maybe wait a few weeks and try again

will the eggs still be good even if he hasen't blown the bubble nest yet? How long are the eggs good before he builds a bubble nest?

the bubble nest is really to protect the eggs from fungus in your tank

if there is no fungus, the eggs should be fine if they are fertilized and they stay fungus free
