If you are going to try and get a pair then I would try to get two that are already together in the same tank.

stick to the same species of 2.

if you choose to get perc, get 2 percs, if you choose false percs, get 2 of em.

dont mix the diff species of clowns, not a good idea.

im getting 2 clarkies for my 90 when its finished cycling...

ok then will do! in the future could i introduce a pair of different clowns or is it best just to keep the species per tank?? just my lfs has black and white and orange and white in the same tank??

Hi Mate

As you know I have a mix of clowns but if you get a mated pair they will be more inclined to stick together rather then 2 of a different species

good luck tomoz

let me know how u get on

Percs and false percs will interbreed so its best to not mix them, however among tank bred percs they have lines that havent got any orange. However if you keep two different clowns in the same tank they may fight if not a mated pair, especially in smaller tanks. The trick to making a mated pair is to start with one or both fish as very very tiny fish, less than half an inch if possible. the bigger one is or wil become a femal and the smaller one will be under her protection.

In general, in the future, try not to mix more than one fish of the same species unless, as above, they are mated pairs. In a small system, they can get aggressive and territorial. Also, try to add the most passive fish first and most aggressive last. SH

By saying that,
is it not a good idea to keep Different Tangs together? or Triggers?

Or do you only mean that for a small reef?

Size of our tanks determine much of the territorial battles that can take place. So the size of the tank is a large contributor to the equation. Steelheair made a generalization and I'm sure he didn't mean that to be a cold hard rule and obviously wouldn't apply to fish that school for example.
