had this pleco for over a year and seems to like sucking holes out of my bogwood , but im staring to think its now self harming itself buy constintly rubbing one side one side of him/her on the wood as one side is all white and looks worn away....???

any ideas is this common???

its hard to get pics as never really comes out of his hole he has dug for him self

My bn plecs often get scuffs on them when they having sexy time but not quite as serious as you have described pics will probably be better, but not sure a fish even knows what self harming is maybe it has some sort of parasite whats causing it to rubb against the wood

pics of the scratch/ white marks on one side

as you can see no marks on one side.....

That looks like some sort of bacterial infection i would try treating it with myxazin as that would more than likely cause it to scratch at the bog wood.

Wilder will help im sure if you post this in the emergency section

If a plec has tiny white salt like grains of salt on him its whitespot.
R.I.P.

wilder the white spots on the second pic are ok the plec as they are natrual , i just want the l no: the first plec on the pic (l14 candy plec ) has the problem ........

smithy must know what there called

Looks a little bit like a Peppermint Pleco (L176) but not 100% sure.
Check out Planetcatfish.com to see if you can find it there.

l14 plec found dead this morning.....

also need a id on my other plec is it a l176??

Sorry to hear that you lost him. I had 2 corys that looked like that once. I thought it was fish TB but may not have been. I do know that the symptoms of TB are open wounds and lesions. I think it is pretty much incureble.

looks like an L181 but have seen these alot trading under the name black busymouth plec mainly maiden head

Cheers Dane
