Alright so...I've done some research into this, it seems the main thing they feed on is wood, but let's see...i'd like to know what would happen if there was no wood in the tank but instead just vegetables like cucumber, would it keep it alive, or is wood really a must have for this type of Plec?

wood is a must really, the theory is that they have a symiotic fungus in their gut that helps them to digest the wood, without wood, panaque do seem to suffer, this is why so many royal plecs are found with sunken bellies and eyes in shops, they aren't kept with wood

All plecos like to have some wood. But the clown pleco does better with it. I have a 2 year old female clown pleco she eats wafers and left over food. But she loves the algea wafers. She a very round happy pleco.
