I've had my clown pleco for a couple of months now, and I've noticed a big reduction in the amount of algae in my tank. I've read that they are not really into algae and it's not as if I don't feed him a variety of "yummier" foods (not that I've seen him eat any because he hides when I thump towards tank). And, his poop is dark green so that evidence points to him. My heater was covered in it, but its now diminishing. There was a fair bit on the bogwood but the algae has reduced there too.

I guess I have alot of hungrier cories due to my babies I'm bringing up. Doubt its the snails. Deffo not the danios. My three amano shrimp are doing ok but doubt its them. Does anybodys plecs or clown plec in particular eat algae?

Hmmmmmmmm anyway, I'm chuffed about it

What do you feed him and how much on an average basis? Sounds weird he's suddenly taken an interest in algae, maybe its pointing to somthing that he's lacking in his diet? Algae usually occurs when there's an imbalance in the tank ecosystem i.e too much light, too many excess nutrients, too many nitrates etc, it may just be the somthing has changed in the tank ecosystem and the algae is naturally dying off and the plec is taking advantage of the easy to get algae?

Variety of dried fish food. Cucumber and courgette. Don't think I've fed him peas yet. And I just chuck in as much as I think all the fish will eat. As I say I never see him eat any of the food I drop in but he sucks on the bogwood and coconut shells alot, which have a little drop algae on it now. I actually liked it on the heater, made it blend in more.
