i have read somewhere that clown plecs need to be in group.
is this true?
but can i still keep one?
will it die prematurely if i keep only one?

so many questions...
:thanks:

Yes, they are a social panaque that needs to ideally be in large groups of 6 or so to be happy and active.

You can keep 1 but you will never see it and it is less likely to feed. Because they are panaques you need to make sure you provide it with bogwood to rasp on and feed it a mixed vegitarian diet to keep it happy.

I wouldnt bother with them myself, they are thoroughly boring plecs... i'd rather a bristlenose or group of ottos instead.

What size is your tank?

thanks for the reply Ben.
i got a 180L tank.
for a bristlenose, can i keep them alone or do i need them to be in a group?
how about for ottos? what is the minimum number for them to be active?

Bristlenose can be kept singely quite happily. As for ottos they do best in a group of 6 or more ideally, although 3 would be a minimum.

in a 180L tank I would think about getting a couple more clown plecs if you already have one, that is if the tank isnt otherwise very highly stocked.

thanks Ben.

I haven't bought a clown plec yet but after your advice, i'll just go with the ottos..
:good:

There are other plecs out there that are suitable for the tank, Otos are rather dull IMO.
