I was at the fish store the other day buying a white female betta  when I looked over to the tank next to her and low and behold there were clown plecs! :hyper: I got so excited I think the fish guy got scared of me. :p They are about an inch long right now. I got 2 for now, maybe later I'll purchase a 3rd. If u all remember, I had a debate about these guys a while back. :S But I got them and since they are so small I placed them in my 10gal tank until they grow up a little more. Then they will move into my 30gal when I upgrade the filters and such. Just a bit curious about how they will fair with my rubber eel since they are quite small. Think he'll try to make them lunch?? :/  Well anyway, just wanted to share (cause Im quite excited!) :fun: :D

:D Cool! You got lucky! LOL

A white betta is so pretty...
But I've never seen a clown pleco, honestly. What do they look like? I hope you'll be uploading some pics or whatever!
I couldn't believe how many different breeds of plecos I found out there are in that pet shop across the highway from me. TONS! You really have to look through all the aquariums, but I must've seen at least 10 different varieties then today.
They're so great, plecos. I love them.

I have 2 clowns, the second one i bought is under an inch, i put him in my tank with 10 other larger plecos and he is fine, he isnt harmed at all. He is a great fish but needs his fair share of wood. I dont know about your eel though... Well if you have anymore questions about the clown pleco, just ask me.

How much wood should I keep for them Plecoguy?

fishdude~ its a rubber eel/worm. Very unheard of kinda thing i think. :fun: I'll try to find my pic of him. In the meantime I think I snapped a couple pics of my clowns and my new bettas. I am gonna go post em now.

well, for the wood it really depends on how much you want, but it helps the diet of the clown, and help them digest other stuff better. For size it depends on your tank size because wood will lower your ph, so you dont want to much.

My clown pleco I never see. All day he hangs upside down under my driftwood, presumably eating. Only comes out at night. Sits on top of the driftwood, presumably eating. Until he sees me then he scoots back under the wood.

I'd get some wood.

If you ever see them count yourself lucky.

Do you have only the one?If so thats why you never see it they should be kept in groups of at least 3 and prefferably more, get him/her a couple of friends and you will see more of them.

Really??? I've heard of that with clown LOACHES, but not plecos. Seems strange... But I'll look into that. I don't think I have enough wood to keep 3 happy!!!

dont have enough wood huh....well i have a piece of wood in my tank that has about 8 or 9 plecos that hang out on it constanly...some are large (10 inches) some are small (under an inch) ...

clowns plec like company, the more the merrier, like bulldog plecs they will swim together in wild in groups and tanks. like banjo catfish! yup they breed in groups! some plecs like company some dont! clowns are best in groups of around 6 in tank if you have room! quite a few species of fish like company of their own kind, khuli loaches, reedfish etc etc etc...

my clown plecs are currently in a 10gal, but I hope to move them to my 30gal eventually. Im waiting for them to get a little bigger so Ely (the eel) doesnt mistake them for lunch! Can I just get a small peice of wood (driftwood?) for them for now? :/

I got all excited last night cause one of them was actually out for the first time sucking on the side of the tank! :D They have each staked out a spot and stuck to it pretty much all the time. One hides in the cave, the other switches between under a fake plant and under the roof of a rock platform thing i have. They dont really hang out together much. is that cause I just have the two right now? :/ Think they'd hang out more if I got a 3rd? Or are these guys just being loners? Will they chill together on the wood? :look:

One more question: Is the wood perfectly safe for my other fish in there?
5 female bettas
4 danios :fun:
3 corys :p

:fun: Ok no this is the last question: How long can the wood be kept in the tank? ie:will it rot and break up, clog filter, have all the good stuff eaten off it, etc... How can I tell when it needs to be changed if ever? :S
(sorry that was like 50 more questions!)

the wood will be fine depending on what wood you using, mopani and bogwood will alst for years and no you will have no ill effect on the other fish. As for the clowns the more the betterif it were me and my lfs has some in stock now, i would get around 6 but that depends on the space in your tank.

I just bought 4 cos that s all they had left! :-( but :D :D :D
