I had always wanted to add clown loaches. Well I finally took the step and added three yesterday. I read a lot of posts about their sometimes strange behavior. Well, this morning I was very disapointed to find one had died already. :-( It was upsidedown at the surface between the intake and outtake of the fluval filter. I was going to get the body out right away and return the fish to the store.

I have a digital thermometer and the probe was attached right there so I thought I could push the body out from between the filter tubes for an easier retrieval. As soon as I touched the body it "woke up" and swam away, as healthy as ever. :*)

I have read of clown loaches "sleeping" motionless on the bottom and other strange behaviors but until you experience it, it is hard to believe.

Yeah I have been treating mine for white spot oover the last couple of weeks, I added a dose yesturday and soon after found one upside down right at the fromt of the tank, with other the right way up nearby.

I half thought it had died (was one of the worst affected), but then i knew about the playing dead tricks...i went upto it and he looked up with a giggle in his eye

Clowns live up to their name

They are always doing weird stuff with me :p

my clowns have never been like any of the clowns that any one on the forum has mentioned.

mine just hide away from me.... *SIGH*

Yeah they live up to the "Clown" part in their name ;)

But Loaches have been one of the hardiest fish I've ever kept. :dunno:

I have 2 clown loaches, one is about 3 inches and one about 5 and the littl'n lies on his side on top of the big clown who's also on his side. Ahhhhh! Must be  Haven't heard them 'clicking' yet though.

You should have at least one more clown loach

loachlover,
so what your saying is, if your keeping clown loaches, keep them in groups of 3 or more?

Exactly

My clown loaches don't do any of that stuff. They usually spend the day fighting over who gets to lie on a peice of slate in my tank, despite the fact that about 15 fish their size could fit on. Then they go under the slate to hide for the night. Then the next day they're right at the surface of the tank with the Tiger Barbs, ready to be fed.

The only funny thing that's ever happened with my clowns was hilarious:

They were lying down side by side on a rock, on their stomachs. To see them not fighting over a spot is rare enough, but then my Blood Parrot swims over them at full speed (Which isn't much for a Blood Parrot), and they both rolled over onto their sides because of the current the Blood Parrot made. Then they got up and went to the top for more food.

People say clown loaches are like dogs; I have to agree with them. They are always doing something; it's very rarely searching the bottom for food like they should. They go to the top when they're hungry, but very rarely stay for long - they can't be bothered to swim actively for long. They started lying between my heater and glass, on top of a suction cup for support.

i have rocks and plants and all the normal stuff :)

i even have a big old pirate ship that they spend their days in

i see them at feeding time and when i'm far away and they havent' spotted me yet but if i get any closer and they aren't going to be fed they hide,

they only love me for the food ;)

Clowns feel more comfertable to "goof off" when they have plently of hiding places.
