so i was wondering how to tell what sex your clown loach is because i have two of them and sometimes they seem to push each other around and nudge each other. sometimes they even cuddle together as they sleep. are they just really good friends or perhaps a mating couple?

To my knowledge, clown loaches have never mated outside a natural environment. They ARE playful, if you can use that word and prefer to be in groups. SH

alright, and another question... i know they're favorite snack is snails... now i have a mystery snail and they seem to be trying to eat it, but it's too big right?

All snails are a vary yummy treat! Do you have a jar or another tank youcan put it in. Once they stop "playing "with there food they can have that snail dead fast!

to sex them
i read somewhere that ther females are lighter than the males

It's not true. Clowns will pale under stress or being startled. The coloration is just another bit of bad information out there on them.

There were several reports of spawns; it is fairly rare but did happen.

One report is here:

But CL's reach sexual maturity no earlier than at about 7-8 years; if your clowns are 2"-3" long, it means at least 5-6 years until there is a very small chance of mating. No point in sexing them at this time.

Also, if you are serious about CL's, you need more of them anyway. 4-5 is the smallest number for them to be comfortable....
