The reason that your clown loaches are not eating is because they normally do not come to the top of the tank for food they rummage around the gravel for their food, you need to buy sinking pellets and the also love frozen blood worm dont worry as soon as you have the pellets(you can get them at any local fish shop) you loaches start eating :)

When I had my clown loaches (R.I.P :( ) they always came to the top and ate flaked food straight fromt eh surface, it was quite amusing to watch because they turned on their backs and ate upside down :D . Try some flaked food if you have any

Peace out

Clown Loaches will eat anywhere in the tank. Nocturnal fish are Clowns and 90% of other loaches but they like to swim around in daytime hours. Feed them late at night and you'll see them eat! ;) Bloodworms are their Fav!! ;) How long have you kept your clowns? Sounds like they are new to your tank.

iv only had them for about a week ,but iv been researching them for about 3 months ill try to feed them later in the night thanx for all ur help everyone! :D

Hi,
I hadn't seen my clown loaches eat and was getting nervous. I got some garlic drops for fish and treated their sinking food with it-one drop per sinking tablet. WOW DID THEY LIKE THAT!!!! It certainly livened things up in that particular tank. They not only eat now but it's a riot watching everyone else try to get in there for a bit of it. Try it, plus it's a good disease preventative I've been told.

I've never seen my clowns come to the top of the tank to eat, they always snuffle around in the gravel, or when I put bloodworm in and it's sinking down they dart through the tank really fast like they're hunting for the worms!! It's quite a sight!

It sounds like loads of people have different experiences with these fish - some people say they happily eat from the top, some people say they only eat at night (mine will eat when the light's on). I think the only hard and fast rule is that they really like a varied diet. I feed mine on bloodworm or tubifex worm or black mosquito larvae 2/3 times a week, then some sort of veggie like cucumber, courgette or peas (with the shells off) 2/3 times a week, then they have a few days off every week as well. Every time I change from one thing to another, like from frozen bloodworm to frozen tubifex, they eat like they've never eaten before!

Debo I like the sound of that did your lfs stock it? Do you know what it's called?

Hi,
The Garlic Stuff I bought is by Kent and it's called Garlic Xtreme. It is in a dropper bottle and was $16.95 for on ounce at my local fish store. It was pretty expensive but figuring the amount of times I have used it, how much they all LOVE IT and what I have left it is WELL WORTH IT. The fish go NUTS over it and it has helped the shy guys come out of hiding after awhile. The clowns are still shy but I do see them fly out of hiding to get some of this garlicky stuff. I just use a few drops on their food. You should see "little sharky" come flying out of where ever he is when I put it in the water. He goes absolutely crazy for it. Boy are we fish people crazy,HUH?
