how big do clown loach grow....

will they be suitable for a 20 (uk) gallon tank?

i like the look of them and would like to have a pair when my tank is cycled

macky :p

IMO there's not enough room in a 20UK.

They like to be in groups of 3+ an can get to 8"+. They are quite slow growers after 4" but I don't think you have room.

:/

hi makcy,

a clown loach will grow up to 6 inches long. you will want to feed them live foods, flake, tablet, and frozen foods. they could go into your tank if you have a efficent filter. what kind/model do you have?

They get bigger than 6", sometimes 12" if given the chance!! IMO it's not a question of waste (I find loaches generally don't produce much) but more a space issue.

This is an interesting one, because I've read both on the net and in books that CL's rarely go above 6 inches in captivity but in the wild will grow to 12 inches. so I would say def a 20 gallon tank is too small when they are older.

Their growth rate IME is very slow, if you have them when they are still small you could have them for a while but you would need to re-house them once they start getting bigger

Here is a link on clown loaches:-
One example link that says 6 inches

I have 4 in my 50 gallon along with angels and the like, and they are very interactive and happy. Most sites say the clown loaches get to 6 inches because they would expect people to keep them that long - It takes 15 years for them to get 12 inches!
