I talked to my LFS today while buying a couple more corys and they said I might be interested in a clown loach.. so I asked a few questions and the guy said it would grow up to about 4 inches, and is entirely passive. I bought him anyway, and put him in a stand alone tank with my red tail shark.

First off, he bullies my shark.. which obviously is a surprise and secondly, the internet informs me that they can grow on average to 7-10 inches.

At the moment I plan to trade him back in for some more corys (i'm not really that obsessed haha) but the main reason is because I am worried about the size he can grow to.

Any advice?

Hi,
C.Loaches do grow up to 10inches (usually 8) so that guy was giving you 'b*#$*%t. (Anything for a Sale!)

They should be kept in a pair at minimum> best in a group of 3-6
(it may explain the bullying, although mine often have a 'feeler' of other fish>not actually bullying/chasing)

Great to watch mind!

beautiful fish they are and yeah they get rather large 7-10inch sounds right though my freinds is currently at 13 inch lol hes 14 yrs old they take a long time to grow but youll have to put into consideration it may be cruel to have just the one most of the places that sell them around here normally sell them in 3's or 4's as the seem to do better but then again he/she may blossem on its own depending on your tank size i would consider rehomeing him/her

He is currently residing in a 65 litre tank, but yeah, I don't want him to be unhappy - i'll take him back tomorrow. He was 6.95, is that an average sort of price?

How big is he?? It varies on size for price quite a bit> Smallest sell at about 3quid, then 7 for 2in., 12quid for 4inch at my LFS anyway. >seen some 8in.ones for 22quid the other day! (weird, as they have less time left..but thats the norm for big fish)

yeah not bad got a bargain like me with the 4 i bought today due to the traniee that served me lol there where 2 tanks with clown loach one tank housing the slightly larger cl priced at £9.99 each and the other tank had much smaller ones at £8 for 2 then he asked me if i wanted the slightley larger ones and charged me the price of the smaller ones so i saved half the money :) which i would of payed for them anyway.
but put it to good use and bought some new live plants for the tank slightly off topic but what the hey lol

4" Iv`e seen 3 in a very large tank that must have been around a foot long, they were for sale a £95 each! Shop keep thinks they may have been around 40 years old!!!!

i think it will definatly be because hes on his own, please take him back :)( or bring him round mine ;) )as he will become ill if hes so stressed out ((bloody lfs  ))
7"-10" is about right he may also end up injuring your shark with his razors.:(
that was a vey good price by the way, i paid £25 for 2 about the same size just 3 days ago, i did get some cheap on ebay sometime ago, but all were dead within 2 weeks due to whitespot, so now i prefer to see what im buying :)

good luck with getting some corys instead, much more suitable

7-10 inches is probably more normal for them in most setups, although there are some that are known to be over a foot in length.
