I have had my 2 clown loaches for 6 months now, and all has been fin, they come out all the time and we have great pleasure in seeing their antics at feeding time with the other fish. The only thing that I have been doing different is that cause of the sunshine, I have not been putting the lights on of an evening. Late last night I thought I would watch my fish feeding, put the lights on, and the loaches colour looked washed out. They are normally very vivid black. This morning they looked like they were back to normal....Please help don't want to loose them..

Clowns are able to change their coloration within certain parameters.
These changes can be based on mood, aggression, possibly stress and other factors.

Thank you very much for that, it makes me feel a little happier....

A loach is not a catfish :look:

who said they were?

my clown loaches change their colour quite often. its nothing to worry about.
do they hide alot? and usually only come out at feeding time?
if so, its because they're hiding until feeding time and are wary of the other fish (or something along those lines). thats the only explaination i have anyway.
it doesn't mean they're gonna get white spot n die. just relax lol people panic about clown loaches because they dont have scales but they're not that hard to maintain

When you turn off the lights of a night they soon go to 'sleep'. If you sneak to them 3 or so hours later and pop the lights on chances are most fish will be on the bottom and look very washed out. Bit like us humans in the morning.

But having 2 is not enough I recommend a minimum of 4. They need to be with thier own kind and get skittish and scared if not with other clowns.

[Cheers for the advise, I will have a look round for some more

Clowns will hide sometimes under bright lights.
I just went up to my tank while the lights were off and using the flash found the 5 of them out and about in full color
here's some of the medium sized ones and the big one is hiding in the background in one pic.
Most of the others blurred a bit I didn't have my fast lense on my Nikon.
