Hi,

Has anyone kept tiger barbs and clown loach together before? Mine used to always stick around with each other even in big groups. It is definitely down to the very similar colouration and stripes. I thought it was just mine acting different but I have found on youtube it happends a lot. Has anyone else found this?

I am sure I have read that Tiger barbs are not aggressive to other species just as long as you have enough barbs as they keep there energy within the group I think you may have an issue if you do not have enough what the magic figure is I do not know hopefully someone in the know and will post.

Regards onebto.

Ideally should not be less than 6 but the more the better to help spread aggression.
Ive read that clowns & tigers are ideal tank mates hence, thats what im lookkng at next!!!!

They do work well together, but consider your final stocking. Clowns need a decent sized tank, which means you will be itching to get more fish to fill the space. Tigers might not be the best choice as there is a very good chance they will pester/nip the other fish you might pick. From my experience, aggression is not reduced by increasing the numbers. I had 18 and they still pestered the crap out of my cories which ended up with missing/damaged dorsal fins.

I love tiger barbs as they are such an entertaining fish. However, I don't go for them anymore as I like an orderly community. No ASBO's! lol

I would recommend them to kids when getting their first tank etc as they are so full of life and quite hard.

I used to have six tiger barbs nd they killed my swordtail pair within a day if being added. After that, i never got tiger barbs again
