Does anyone have any good links about clown loaches? I'm just looking for general information on them. I'm considering getting a couple once my tank gets settled in the next few weeks. I read in a separate post about the "spikes" an either side of their head. What's the purpose of these?

One of the people at my lfs suggesting bringing in a sample of our water before we add them to our tank. Are they senstive fish? I mean, like sensitive as in cry easily? :p Anyway, any general information on them, or a nudge in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks...

yes, Clown loaches are very sensitive fish and require pristine water conditions, as for the gill spines, they use them to sift through the sand or to fight with.

that is a very helpful link. thanks :)
i'm aware that some clown loaches get quite large, but was under the impression that this was not the norm. i have a 20 gallon tank - should i consider other fish options and hold off on clown loaches until i get a larger tank?

I would say hold off until you get a larger tank. Clown loaches do grow rather slow, but generally get at least 8 inches. They also do best in a group so 3 minimum 8 inch clown loaches in a 20g would be overcrowded.

If you want loaches check into the yo-yo loaches Botia almorhae. They are colorful and only get about 4". They have a great personality also.
