It's not that loaches and females are not compatible, but clown loaches need lots of swimming space, and they need to be kept in groups. So a single clown loach is never appropriate, IMO. And unless you have a very large female betta tank (at least 40g if I'm not mistaken), you won't have room for the loaches. They need lots of swimming room and get quite large.
