Clown Knife Fish

i read that in aquariums they wont reach anywhere near that size more like 20 inches

Still, a 20" fish in a 100g is too much... Plus, do you want to take the chance? People say clown loaches are unlikely to get to 12", but I know several people with clown loaches that big.

I wouldnt recomend it, as they grow (and they GROW and FAST) they become increasingly aggressive toward tankmates and can inflict considerable damage. They are best suited to very large tanks with other tankbusters which can defend themselves.

i'd say minimum tank size is deffinately 6x2x2ft, although potentially it would need to be 6Wx2Hx3W for it to happily swim and turn around. We have one at work that has trippled in size in about 5 months. It also likes feasting on fish anything less than half its body size.

They have one at Maidenhead Aquatics in Swindon which is well over 2feet long and thats only in a 4x2x2ft tank, although it doesnt look very happy.

i am getting a bigger tank in the near future so could i buy a small one and grow him for 6 months?

They grow exceptionally fast, as already stated, so just wait 6 months and then buy one :)

a clown knife could catch a bala shark? Wow.

I thought balas grew big and did well with semi-agressive species such as oscars, tinfoil barbs and clown knife fish...i guess i learned something new today!

could catch a bala for sure....sneak up on it during slepy time

somebody brought into my LFS 3 18" clown knives and dumped them there. although i'm positive that these were severely stunted, their jaws were easily 6" long. i bet that any one of them could readily chomp a bala; maybe not swallow it but definately maul it to death.
