Cloudy Water

Hi , sorry this might sound stupid but am new to tropical fish, I have a 180L Juwel Rio tank at the minute it contains 5 danios , the water has been consistantly cloudy since setting the tank up over four weeks ago, was advised to use filteraid as this would clear the water which was done two days ago the water turned brown straight away but it no clearer ! just rung the shop and they said I should have taken the carbon out of the filter as this stops the water clearing, am getting so much inconsistant advice would appreciate some help ! fish seem ok, according to the local fish shop all readings are normal no nitrite, no amonia ph 6.5 kh normal thats all he said would welcome any suggestions , don't know whether to do partial water change ? thank you xx

You should be doing partial water changes each week, especially when the tank isnt cycled!

The Cloudyness is a bacterial bloom, that is caused by high amounts of chemicals.

Also, the shop are telling you its normal, but they will tell you anything, purchase a API Test kit and find the real stats.

You want some Nitrate (max of 40), 0 Ammonia and 0 Nitrite

I'm kinda new to this too but I had the same problem with my tank the past couple of weeks. My water started to get cloudy and I started to freak out. But I realized it was because I was adding Proper PH 7 to my water during the water change, and when I put that water in the tank, the established water was buffering the PH back up to around 8 for me. So what I did to resolve this issue was to cut out Proper PH 7 and just use straight tap water that was free of chlorine. I did partial water changes (about 10-15% per day) for about a week and it helped to clean up the cloudyness. You might also want to rinse out your media filter in a bucket of aquarium water as tap water will kill the bacteria.
