Please Please help me. I cant remember the size of my tank but I have a number of fish dying. I orginally had fish rot and was treating this and all seemed to be ok, but now you can hardly see into my tank, and my fish are dying daily. I dont know what to do to clear this, there now seems no sign of fish rot.
I have

1 albino toad
1 Chinese Hi Ho
1 Gourami
1 Molly
1 Glass Fish

Please help

hiya, rite, suggestion to help clear the tanks water so u can see in it!!!

check the filter, u can either try turning it off n on again, to see if its working, or u can take a bucket half full of tank water, and clean the filter in it, making sure that u clean out all the bits of plants that cud be in there.

rite, now put it back in the tank, turn it on, check and see if its more powerful or not.

do a 25% water change, but dnt 4get 2 decholrinate it with tap safe.

get dwn the shop and buy sum melafix - it can be found at most aquatic centres/shops, and isnt that expecnsive.

read the instructions, and work out how much u need 4 each treatment in ur size tank.

add 1 dose of melafix a day everyday 4 7 days, and feed as normal, but dnt do ne water changes.

on the 8th day, no water changes, and no melafix.

9th day, do a water change of abt 25%

if this doesnt help clear ur tank then i duno wot will. it sud help u solve the problem of fish dropping dead, and also clear the water with the water changes.

if the water is still hard 2 see thru o the 10th day do 10% water changes everyday for abt 5 days.

this sud help u alot!

keep us updated, as im sure that ppl will help u more and more if this isnt helping u.

Also, if u havent got test kits, either get sum (if u can afford them) or take the water dwn the shop u got the fish at and they will test it 4 free.

u need to test the ph, the Nitrite and the Nitrate. then u mite decide to test the ammonia.

:rip: dead fishies

GUD LUCK!!!

Great thanks for your detailed response. Fingers crossed.

I had the same problem you did. All the fish dying, cloudy water...
One of the fish experts at my lfs said that my gravel bed might be decomposing, so I should put in a new gravel bed. So I did this and now my tank is healthy and crystal clear!!

Hope this helps!

Just wondering why use melafix? trevt100 mentioned there was no sign of fin rot, so why use a med w/o knowing what the problem is? If there is a disease present, I think it should be diagnosed before treating. Just my opinion.

IMO, you should just start with testing the water for ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates and then do a healthy water change. Then diagnose the disease, if there is one.

Also, I wouldn't clean the filter too vigourously or you could kill the good bacteria.

melafix is a great med, not only 2 help fight infection, but also stops the fish gettin stressed, and allows their defence system to have more of a chance against nasty things in the tank.

if fish have already started dropping dead, then there is sumthing wrong, so other fish are at risk. melafix will help them fight woteva is thrown at them.

i guess i sud av asked trevt100 to test the water 1st, but usually wen the water is that cloudy that u cnt see thru it, the water tests will not be ne use.

i offered the best advise that i cud give. at the time trevt100 needed advise asap, and no1 else had offered help, so i did.

if there is a problem with wot i sed then yeh shout n scream at me, but wot i have advised trevt100 to do is exactly the same as most other ppl wud have sed.

fish dropping dead will always worry the owner, help 2 find out y is great, but in the mean time its vital that sumthing is done 2 help the fish survive.

The fish could be dropping dead due to high ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates. Melafix is not going to fix that. IMO, first thing should've been to check the water stats and improve the water conditions.
