I realize gold fish are dirty but I cant seem to do anything about the water conditions in my tank. It just stays cloudy. Algae has not been a real problem but the cloudy water has. I vacuum once a week and clean filter. Tank is not yet mature but it is 4 weeks old. Anything I can do to keep water clear short of chemicals? Should I consider a "clean up crew" of fish? Was told nothing lives well with gold fish other than gold fish.

What you need is a 90 gallon tank! There is absolutely no way for you to clear up that tank short of doing water changes thrice daily (obviously with de-chlorinated water). Also, when you clean out your filter make sure you're doing this in old tank water or at least in de-chlorinated water. Getting more fish is absolutely out of the question.

Seriously though, you cannot keep 8 goldfish in a 10 gallon. In fact, you can't keep ANY goldfish in a 10 gallon. You say they are feeders - are you going to be feeding them to something then? If you are, you should know that this is a very unhealthy practice as they can itnroduce diseases. If you are keeping them in here permanently, you'd better get yourself a 90 gallon. Regardless actualy, you shouldn't have them in such a small tank and you should either return them or get one large enough for them.

Thanks for the response. Put together they add up to about 8 inches. You maybe right about this but I'd like to hear other opinions about these feeders before I decide what to do.

Anyone?

Get the 90 Gallons as Sylvia has stated. Goldfish are extremely messy and yours will grow! I bought some to feed my turtle in my pond, but the turtle ran away and the fish stayed un-eaten. They were less than an inch when we bought them, now they are about 3 inches and growing.

Plus they are active and need room to swim.

i would take the goldfish back. they are very messy fish. i would get some tetras or something. and besides feeder fish caryy alot of diseases. i learned that the hard way. i put 2 feederes in a 2.5 gal. tank and they all died.

i would keep goldfish in a pond or a 90 gallon or bigger tank.

feeders are usualy commets. if i remeber correctly they get some where that they get aorund a ft. now imagine 8 1ft long fish in that tank(im the one to speek arent i :*) ). this why they need a 90gal. the cloudy water is too a lot of waste from the goldfish because they are messy. also due to the poor conditions that feeders are kept in they carry lots of diseases. i think you would be best to take them back and get better fish for a 10 gal.

hmm well that is a little bit much for a 10 gallon go with is for now and get some annonia/nitrate reducer no more fish and your proally someone who doesnt have to money for a bigger tank but if some of you fish di off do not buy more
