hello,
I have a 55 gallon tank and have recently had problems with cloudy water. I have had the tank for around a month now. I don't have any driftwood so I know thats not the problem. I have done the all of the things that I thought that I am supposed to do, twice a month (25%) water changes and filter changes(including cleaning the gravel. In the tank I have 3 convicts,2 firemouths,2 tinfoils and a pleco. I bought the tank at wal-mart, do you think that it might not have a good enough filtration system? Thanks, ADAM :p

Sounds like it could be a bacteria bloom and going through the cycle still. Is it white?

What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate readings?

the water doesn't really look white, just really hazy. I'm not sure what the levels are.

If you don't have ammonia, nitrite, nitrate testers maybe take them to a shop they do them free most of the time. Can you do that?

...most of the time for free. Also i think it still oculd be the tank cycling. ;)

had a similar problem recently. cycled my tank for weeks, though at the time did not realized i even needed to (we have really bad water here in arizona, so i figured filtering it til i decided on fish couldn't hurt). i noticed that after two weeks of having fish, my water was cloudy and darker. two things have helped, cutting down on food (they weren't eating it all before it sank so it was building up in the water/gravel), and weekly water changes and gravel vacuums. so far, its helped a lot, and i haven't lost any more fish.
