looks like algae from the picture. Do a lot of frequent water changes, scrub the sides, and burn your lights less. Also, is the tank in direct sunlight?

what kind of filter do you have in the tank?

it looks kind of like algae. If it is, all you can really do is a lot of water changes. Maybe wait until someone with more experience comes on, but me personally, what I would do is 10% or 15% twice a day.

I think so, it has been advised on here before. But please please don't just take my word for it, wait for someone else to come on, I'm just saying what I would do. If you were going to do twice a day water changes, make them little water changes. Like 10%

I had a similar problem when my tank was new and was advised that it was a harmless algae bloom. It cleared up after a while. If you have the same, 2 water changes a day might well be a bit excessive, I would save that for the really lethal problems. Perhaps 2 a week might be better, but keep a close eye on the fish.

I strongly advise against such frequent water changes especially if your fish seem happy. Usually this kind of cloud will clear up if you have a properly functioning filter it is part of the cycling of a new tank and i have had it with most of my soft water aquariums.

However if your fish start to seem stressed and unhealthy it may be time to start doing water changes, but dont go over board there are handy bacteria which break down nitrates / ites in the water too much new water wont help anyone.

I would suggest getting a new filter but add your filter media from the old one and add some filter floss which is the white material you get with the filter. Also do regular water changes. I would do a 25% water change(remember to treat the water) now and see how it goes. I suggest the fluval filter which i have. I changed my substrate and had the exact same cloudiness and it was gone in a day. Scrape the glass with algea sponge helps too, Hope this helps. let me know how it goes.
