Hi all. I have a 29 gallon tank with community fish in it. No matter what I do, I can't get the water clear. Today it is cloudier than ever. The filter has been cleaned, I replaced out 1/4 of the water over the weekend. I use Cycle and Acurel F, but nothing works. I am very frustrated. I was told I was overfeeding, so I cut back. Now I have unhappy fish. I feed them and usually within 2-3 minutes all the food is gone. Any suggestions?

Has your tank finished it's cycle yet cause if it hasn't then it's a good sign cloudy water means your beneficial bacteria is blooming and your nearly at the end of your cycle. BTW when you clean your filter sponge do you use tap water? If you do you should never do this cause you are doing more harm by killing the bacteria on your filter, just washed with the water from your tank. The water will clear up just let your filter catch up on it. I hope this helps....... :D

Have you checked you're ammonia as my tank spiked high ammonia and it went very cloudy.

I am not sure how old your tank is, but my tank is 5 years old and it recently got really cloudy. One of my friends said the gravel was decomposing. So I changed it and now the tank is clear again. I don't have any fish in it now, because I have to re-establish the bacteria.

Hope this helps!

Two questions that could use answers:

How long has the tank been running?
Is the cloudiness mostly white or green?

I feed them and usually within 2-3 minutes all the food is gone.

Good, if you feed them any more then this you are feeding too much. Most people overfeed because they don't realize how little food they need. Your fish are not unhappy because you are feeding them less.

Those two previous questions are important for a reliable response. It's also good to know how many fish yu stock and what filtration you are running.
