My ponds been running for 12 months or so

Its about 750gallon, has a box filter fed by pump which goes through a UV filter

over last few days the pond water has just become murky, I'm assuming the very strong sun of recent days is responsble. I changed the UV bulb three weeks ago and when I first fit i it cleared the pond but now its like this again

Is it just an algae bloom cos of the sun which is to much fo my UV to handle

My plant growth has been handicapped by blanket weed as well

what if anything can I do to clear the water?

hi green water is a pain in the neck first get rid of the blanket weed i use kusuri eco pur its in powder form pour it around the edge of your pond it will fall down onto the blanket weed turn off your uv but leave your pump running keep your eye on the blanket weed after a few days you should start to see it going brown it then clumps you can net it out if you want. what fish have you got and how big how many plants have you got? the other thing you can use is barley straw put it in a small tank and let the water run through it it saves geting straw floating all over your pond hope this helps you all the best terry

hi you say murky
is it green murky , milky murky or tea coloured murky lol its sounds like a daft question but its not
if it is green murky then yes algea bloom= use an algea treatment
milky murky is fines problem from dying algea = you need a finer filter media to catch them
and tea coloured is protiens in the water but this usually has bubbles on the surface on the pond = protien skimmer

t a for replies

I;ve had barley hay in waterfor 3 weeks or so no anyhow but may try the powder you suggest

I have comets , goldfish, shubunkins, koi, tence, orfe and stickleback in my pond

the water has cleared up a fair bit but then sun has gone a fair bit as well

Saph I don;t know what colour it is, it looked green to me but when you get a cup out its clear!!

hi it sounds like fines
the sun catches them right and it makes the pond look murky, the best way to tell if your pond is actually clear is to take a photo with flash at night.
the flash does the same as the sun and will show the fines up in the photo :good:

its pretty much clear again now, from opaque on saturday its graduallu got clearer all week, if you can;t see in it doesn;t half reduce the enjoymenty of the pond

this is what my pond looked like with a fines and protein problem the filter couldnt cope so i know what you mean
