hi, i have a 20 gal tank, approx 7 months set up. about 1 month ago we had a long spell of high humidity weather, not sure if this has anything to do with my problem but it was at that time my tank water turned green? i always turn the light off at night, it's not near a window but my livingroom is very sunny, i have lots of big windows, but the tank is never in direct sunlight. no algae build up on my fake plants, rocks or gravel, just the water turned green? i'm being told it's algae, to keep the light off for a few days, and to buy some chemical to remove algae and it'll clear up. well i bought some Jungle Tank Buddies 'No More Algae' but am leery about using it. i have 2 african cichlids, 1 algae eater, and 1 rainbow shark. i'm worred about how this stuff will affect my aglae eater and also the package says not to use in soft water with low alkalinity. well, my water tests both? so what do i do? is there a way to raise the alkalinity? change the water from soft to hard? i did 4 small water changes, around 30%, in the last week and it's still not clearing up? so what is causing this? my filter isn't anything special. it's for a 20-40 gallon tank, and it works good, as far as i know. should i be using an under gravel filter... are they really better?
thanks
