I brought my fish which is a albino denison barb. Few hours into him being out into my tank may have actually been the next day i realised he had cloudy eyes , it didnt go within the week so iv put it in a seperate tank and used 2 differant treatments. Internal bacteria and somthing else how long should he stay in their for ? Hes swimming and has done the whole time no problems eating . He has been normal besides staying low the whole time in both tanks any thoughts or general help would be ideal thank you.

Cloudy eyes are normally caused by poor water quality or something in the water irritating the fish. It's just excess mucous covering the eyes to protect them.

It can also be caused by an injury to the eye (scratch or bumping into something).

On rare occassions it can be from a bacterial infection but the eye usualy swells up when infected and the fish don't eat as much or stop eating completely.

--------------------------
The best treatment is regular water changes and gravel cleaning to keep the tank clean.

Dirty filters can also contribute to cloudy eyes so regular filter cleaning is helpful.

--------------------------
Some albino fish can appear to have cloudy eyes and this is light reflecting off the inside of the eye. Albino fishes are also more prone to developing cataracts, which appear as a white spot in the middle of the eye.

Swims low as in normal for him

Cataracts are normally seen in older fish or albino fish that have spent a lot of time outdoors exposed to sunlight. They look the same as cataracts in people and animals and the fish slowly lose their vision as the cataract grows.

Fish can live with cataracts and Dr Gerald Allen (ichthyologist) had a Dirran Creek rainbowfish with cataracts. The fish was about 9 years old and would still breed with the females and used to take food from the surface. We used to wiggle our finger about on the surface of the water to get the fish's attention, then put some floating food in.
