I think one of my fish is getting cloudy eye... is it contagious? How do you treat it? I'm so worried... :(

EDIT: Oh and how does it start: my fish has a small cloudiness starting in the left eye. If caught early, is it often treatable?

Is this in the tank that has nitrite problems right now? If so,there's your aswer. Do more water changes until this passes.

I just did a 40% water change. Will the cloudy eye continue to grow or does it stop? please I need more info on this disease. I heard it can also be caused by chlorine poisoning. I did condition my tap water before adding it, but... maybe it wasn't enough. I'm really worried. Is cloudy eye fatal?

No it's not deadly nor contagious. As long as you keep on top of your water changes it should clear right up :)

At this point,I would blame your water parameters. You use dechlorinator, right? I'm sure that's not what it is...if you do...which I'm pretty certain you must.

I don't get it... even after my water change of almost 50%, the nitrites are still quite high. :dunno: What's going on?

Yes I do dechlorinate. :D Well that's a relief. At least I know that my fishy will live, and hopefully clear up soon. Woudl it be advisable to purchase meds for it?

Test your tap water. Then treat some water with dechlorinator and test it. See if your dechlorinator is altering your readings. Sometimes chlorine/chloramine from the city can alter your readings as well.

Does your dechlorinator remove chloramines?

I wouldn't medicate at this time, I don't see a reason to.

Yes, on the bottle it says "neutralizes chlorines, chloramines, and heavy metals".

Ok, then I guess I'll just leave it be and hope for the best... poor little fishy. :( Oh yeah, and can this disease cause blindness? Cause that would really suck.

I think you're ok. But test your tap anyway. Last year I had nitrite coming out of the tap very high. The city told me it was chloramines but that didn't settle well with me. I just think it's crappy city water.

Hope he clears up for you really quickly  I don't think you have to worry about blindness, cloudy eye can clear up overnight as soon as you solve the problem that's causing it.

Awesome. Then I can finally stop worrying. Anyway, thanks a bunch for your advice, it's been helpful.

Well, good news. It's looking much better. Hoping it'll be completely gone by tomorrow.
