My 65gallon reef tank has been up and running for aliitle over a month now. I know its going through alot of changes. But why is the water so cloudy? looking from one end to the other end i cant even see it. So visibilty is low. I tested my water and had someone look at it. They said it tested out okay. Is there some sort of additive or chemical i should add to the tank?

Did you wash your sand? If the water quality is good but the turbidity is high then Its probably dust, water polishing diatom filters would clean it up, or a water change.

Was it cloudy from the start?

Are you sure its not a biological problem, uncured LR or lots of dead critters?

Yeah im not really sure. When i first started the tank up the water was pretty clear. I dont even have any sand in this new tank. I dont think it has much to do with the live rock because it came out of another tank that i have had for a while. But i have noticed that some of my snails have died? Could that be the problem? I asked a guy at the lfs and he acted like snails die all the time and that its normal. So i really dont know what to do. I was thinking about adding some carbon to the tank to see what that does. I heard that works sometimes.

Sounds to me like a bacterial bloom in regards to an excess of dead stuff, Let the tank sit for a month or so in the dark and it shoudl clear up

what is the SG of the tank> is it possible that there is still undesolved salts in the water? this would mean a very HIGH SG rating and could cause snail deaths. regardless though, the snails should be removed if they are still in the tank.
