My 29 gallon started to get cloudy yeterday but I figured it would just go away the next day because it had done that before. Well the next day it was even worse! I could barely see to the other side of the tank when I looked through it. :( I tested the water and all my params are fine

ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates-7.5
PH 6.8

I recentlty added 2 glass catfish and a khuli loach which died today. I added them last week. You can see what kind and how many fish I have in my 29 gallon in my sig. I checked my filter pad and it looks clean as I just cleaned it about a week ago in old tank water. I did buy a used filter though and am not sure if it is working 100%. I am going to the LPS and picking up a brand new filter tonight and see if that works. If not, I don't know anything else to do.

What could have caused this? I also didn't overfeed because I skipped feeding them yesterday.

have you recently increased your lighting or added and fertilizer? I just got over a small algea bloom with milky coloured water and tiny little white things on everything. what worked for me was a 30% water change today, then another in 2 days. And I decreased the hours of light from 11 to 6, and will slowly turn them back up by 30 minutes every 2 days until i get to about 10.

Hope that helps

Do a 50% water change....I am thinking the cloudiness is a bacterial bloom which isn't a bad thing in itself but if you lost two fish and it looks awful then its not good.

I had this happen to me once at it took about 3 water changes to get it back to normal....that was 8 months ago and the tank have been crystal clear ever since :D I didn't do anything different it just happened

Well I am still looking to buy a new filter because I think the one I am using is missing a part now that I look at it. I only lost one fish, but still one is too many. :-( I would do a water change but I have to wait until tonight to get some stress coat and treat the city water. Thanks a lot guys! I hope it gets better, it looks really nasty as it is now. I feel so bad for my fish. Even one of my blue rams is losing it's color.

I have been experienceing a slight cloudy condition too. One thing that canoe mentioned may be part of my problem. I was fighting a blue green algae condition but had crystal clear water. I added several new plants and increased the amount time my lights were on. There only on about 6 hours a day before and even with that the algae was growing like a weed. Now have lights on 12 hours (5 on in morning, off 5 then on 7 in the evening). I am doing weekly 5 gallon water changes. All water parameters are great. Maybe the additional light is the problem. I plan to treat the water with Maracyn starting Monday. I understand that will get rid of the blue green completely without harming the bacteria.

I agree with Angry Platy,it could be a bacteria bloom

I bought a new filter and added an air stone along with a background. As soon as I added the new filter I bought, the water cleared up almost instantly! I also did a 30% water change.

I bought a new test kit today and I guess I had a nitrite spike! My nitrite is in the danger zone!!! :-(
