A while back someone asked if I would get a close up of my loaches. I had my video camera out today and got a couple I thought you would like. Hope you enjoy.

A close up of all 4 Clown Loaches. Getting these guys to sit still for a pic is a royal pain in the neck. Those are close to their actual colors. They are a bit washed out from yesterdays ordeal. I bet you can imagine what they look like when they arent washed out.

How big can loaches get again??

They have to have a certain "type" of water, right?? Like soft or hard or salt or something I just forgot what!!

Beautiful!! If I could have a loach tank I definitely would. But I have a 55 and a 29 and a 2gallon already :-(

My husband would shoot me stone cold!

6"...SWEET! I have a few myself, the largest only being 3" (2 years in my tank), the smallest at 1.5" (2 months in my tank). I can't wait for them to get pretty big. Unfortunately, the first 3 I got didn't have really dark bands as yours do, but my recent ones do.

yeah, it's a good pic. I need to get a closeup lense on my camera. My loaches are camera shy.

Loaches, in the wild, can get to about 12". In captivity, they have been reported to get about 6"-8". I'm sure they will reach they're 12", it's just I don't think anyone has ever had them for that long or maybe the fish outlived them. :D

They are fine from slightly acidic water to slightly alkaline waters. I believe they like softer waters, but mine is pretty hard and they seem to do fine in there.

They should be fine in a 55 gallon tank when they are small. Just make sure your tank isn't overcrowded. Also be sure to get a bigger tank in the future when they get bigger. Mine are in a 55 gallon tank, but I have plans to move them into a 135 gallon tank.

BTW Rose, how big is your tank? What are it's tankmates?

Crazy eddie they are in a 46g bowfront that is fully planted with live plants. They share their domain with 4 pearl gouramies, a bristlenose pleco and 12 rummy nose tetras (soon to be a really BIG school). Before that they were in a 55g tank with 3 bala's, 3 pictus cats and 5 female kribs.

Thanks for the nominations guys. They really are somethin to look at in person. Pics don't do them any justice. There are some days when their color is so awesome I swear you need sunglass's just to look at them.
