We have 3 loaches (Zebra) which are very active in our tank.........brilliant guys, always up to mischief......

.......however, sometimes, when they eat, they make clicking noises. I know that others do the same (Clown loaches?).

My question is............how do they do that..............do they have little teeth?

(.......the background to the question is that one of my neons has a scale missing.......almost as if he had been nipped whilst asleep... .......)

All of the genus Botia are cabaple of making such 'Clicking Noises' it is to believed to be more linked in with communication and mood than anything else. Botias only have pharyngeal teeth. These are bony plantes situated in the throat of the fish. :)

I don't know about Zebra Loaches, but I know Clowns have barbs under their eyes that I've been led to believe (dunno if it is definately true!) make the clicking noise. I have first hand experience of these barbs as well as when I moved my clowns the other day one of them got his barb stuck in the net, right pain to get it off!!!

I can't see anything specific...............but thanks for the comments anyway......
