somethings clicking in my tank its rather annoying but i cant figure out what it is.

list that i no of .....

2 clowns
1 Cb
4 turbos snails
4 turban snails
5 scarlett hermits


any one have any idea, i though it was one of the snails since it seemed like it was coming from that way, but do snails click ...

if its not any of the hardware my best guess is a mantis shrimp making a hole in the live rock also if you see neww hole and lr changed around its def a mantis shrimp wich they can kill fish i think anyway bad news

My hermits sometimes make clicking noises but it isn't that loud or annoying.

Is it a powerhead impeller?

Or it could be a small pistol shrimp, or more likely the hermits fighting behind the rockwork. A lot of times hermits will throw each other around violently when fighting each other, the result of which is an audible clicking sound.

Most of the clicking in my tank is due to the 3 hermit crabs that are in the elongated shells. They tap against the glass as they walk along the front of the tank.

well the loudest clicking was when a hermit was next to the snail and the snail just seemed to flip and there was a rather large click, but now they seem to come fast n furious usually 3 clicks at a time then a break, then it can continue. its been clickless for about 10 mins now.

i was worried it may be a mantis cus got new LR in other week so i thought i may of got it as a hitchhiker!

Hopefully it's a Pistol shrimp - they tend to be much noiser than Mantis shrimps and are harmless

I always wondered if that was true for the humble shrimp we keep lol - e.g. with mantis the whole smash through tank thing is probably not gonna happen with a wennerae (sp.?) lol

yeh ive seen them before, funny little things! i just moved the LR round a bit and had a quick check around to no avail, its deffo coming from that general area though so i may have a thourough check soon! im hoping its just a loud hermit or a snail popping or sumin if snails do make popping noises i dunno!

as hot as the sun - I don't think so

I've never heard of a pistol shrimp causing any problems apart from the panic they cause when their noise makes youn think the tank has cracked
