how do i change the water in my 1 gallon tank? i heard you can "over clean" a fishtank. should i just change the water and not rinse the tank out with hot water?

My one gallons I put the betta and or any plants in a temporary place (either cup from betta store, tupperware, or whatnot.)

then, I take the one gallon to the bathroom and pour all the tank water into the toilet. (I don't keep any gravel in the 1 gals)

Then I take it to the sink, Give it one good rinse, then fill it back up with the tap water and water conditioner, making sure its about the same temp as before.

Then I put the tank back and put the fish back in the tank.

when I clean my l galls out I do basically the same. I sometimes put the clean water in a spare tupperware box which is the same size as the tanks I leave it for 24 hours, then still put conditioner in the new water and just stick the fish in a small jar whilst I clean his tank...no gravel so much easier..put new water in his tank check temp and put in one really annoyed fish!

I do the same! Sometimes I wipe the tanks out with a wash cloth & I always rinse the plants.
