I have a film of algae growing in my cycling 24g and I wish to know how people clean without scratches appearing?! As I have said before I keep freshwater fish and both tanks have numerous scratches on the glass. I have used numerous methods but it still happens. I would REALLY like to keep this tank scratch-free, so any ideas??

Regards

Joe

I get a scouring pad, Then i get some fairly rough sand paper and rub the scourer over it for a bit to ware the scourer down so its not very rough anymore, then boil it in kettle water and use that (the scourer not the sand paper ...)

Depending on algae we use either a mag float - take off most of the loose or new algae on the glass or a kitchen scourer.

Will try with a softer one that you can use on non stick pans and if that doesn't work then one of the metal ball type ones that you would use on pyrex dishes. These seem to work fine and do not put scratches on the glass.

Only thing I will say is that if you don't rinse the metal type one very well it rusts very quickly and has to be binned

I use an old type razorblade scraper (you know the type like a long stick with 2 prongs at one end and a blade holder at the other) Insert your blade and then cover it with a doubled piece of cotton cloth held on with a rubber band. It does work.
Cotton will need replacing due to gunk (algae)

Mag float and, for those tough spots...an old credit card. SH

credit card sounds good, might even use a "new" one, stop me spending lol

actually i have been using a plastic "spatula" from the kitchen, the thing you flip fried eggs with it, works well, no scratches
