There is something hazy of the front glass of my 30 gallon tank and I can't seem to get it off. It looks like something spilled down the front of the tank, like when rain drops run down your windshield. I tried water, window cleaner (with no ammonia) and even CLR. I also tried vinegar and one of those green scrubby dish wash things.

I bought this tank used and am just setting it up. I can't remember seeing it when I bought it but I also can't remember spilling anything myself.

What could it be and how on earth can I get it CLEANED OFF?

Is the tank Glass or Acrylic? It sounds a bit strange. I would think you could get almost anything off glass. Have you tried alcohol (methylated spirits, isopropyl alcohol etc)? Maybe some sort of goo remover (the type that gets sticky stuff off)?

if it is glass, the best thing is a 7" window scraper
like this

these can be found in any good hardware store

I tried isopropyl alcohol, no luck. I am going to buy some goo gone this week and give that a shot along.

I think it is glass, but how can I tell?

try viniger, it cleans everything on my tank and wont kill tank if any gets in it. Just a thought, if it will clean calcium deposits off of glass, im sure it will clean your problem.

Don't use Goo Gone on your tank if it's acrylic... I'm pretty sure it would bubble/melt the plastic a little. I've used Goof Off (very similar product) in cleaning parts and where it was wiped on, it streaked and slightly melted the plastic cover on a light.

Could the haze be fine scratches and swirl marks?? If so, no cleaner will remove haze from scratches. You would need to get acrylic/plastic scratch remover and polish. There are alot of aquarium safe polishes.
